Just absorbing the news of govt plans for #SocialCare. One group that will be particularly hard hit are unpaid carers. And of course there will be a hugely unequal impact according to class and gender.

Remember during COVID, the 'breaking' news notifications for every daily death count? Rolling coverage on cases? Hospitalisations? It was everywhere. What about now, for the 2,312 excess deaths in the last week recorded? 22.9% above the 5-year average. Silence, total silence.

2 years ago I was grappling with writing my discussion chapter for my #PhD. My supervisor thought it might help if I tried to draw it. Apparently this wasn't what she was looking for! πŸ˜‚ (Much like the first 2 drafts of disc chapter!) If that sounds like your #phdlife Keep going!

Is anyone able to assist Gemma in her research study? These studies are sooo important in informing our developments for the current and future workforce. If you can please take the time to have a look at the link. Thanks Royal College of Paramedics

1/ As a former GP, I’ve seen the agony of patients dying in pain. We all want peaceful, painless deaths for our loved ones. But the Assisted Dying Bill crosses an ethical red lineβ€”with dangerous consequences for patient safety and the moral fabric of society. 🧡

Assisted suicide advocates: "It works well in other countries!" Reality: In the Netherlands, around 40% of euthanasia deaths are performed without the patient's consent. Below is the crazy way one prominent euthanasia advocate justifies this

Dr. Calum Miller (@drcalummiller) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Robert Young wrote the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy on euthanasia. He freely admits that around 40% of cases are without the patient's consent: "of those terminally ill persons who have been assisted to die about sixty per cent have clearly been cases of voluntary

Dr. Calum Miller (@drcalummiller) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This is chilling - he nonchalantly says that "the vast majority" of non-voluntary cases involved a patient who is not competent - that is to say, some of these cases involve a competent patient being euthanised without agreeing to it. This is literally murder.

Dr. Calum Miller (@drcalummiller) 's Twitter Profile Photo

But it gets crazier. Young says: "It might be thought that these deaths ought to be regarded as instances of non-voluntary euthanasia. But, in fact, it would be inappropriate to regard them as such. Here is why. For the overwhelming majority of these cases, the decisions to end

I have cared for 1000s of palliative care patients, Philip, & I find your dismissal of a particular group of people as being 'beyond help' both crude and arrogant. The last months, weeks, hours & even days of life can - and very often do - contain love, wit, tenderness, humour.
