With this new application included, science will again be enhanced by optics and the camera. In time of war, a general could have photographs of the enemyโ€™s exact position.

We cannot over-state the great services the camera has given us throughout the centuries. -30-

Born in 1835, this is American author Mark Twain, best known for penning The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in 1876 & its sequel Huckleberry Finn in 1884. I've cleaned-up these two rare autochrome photos, taken in colour 116 years ago. They are not colourised.

Quinet was a member of the โ€˜Sociรฉte Franรงaise de Photographieโ€™ from 1876 to 1894. His work was displayed in the 1878 Universal Exhibition.

Quinet's work shouldn't be confused with Constant-Alexandre Famin which often happens I'm told.

Parallel themes being the reason. -30-

The Foredown Tower Camera Obscura was originally built in 1909 as a sanatorium for patients with infectious diseases.

It was demolished in 1989 and rebuilt two years later into this truly optical learning environment.

Kilburn's Gun Camera was designed for the outdoor photographer who had to deal with heavy equipment and difficult terrain.

By combining a lightweight 4x5 camera with a specially fitted gunstock and trigger-release linkage, Kilburn was able to do away with the tripod.
