In today's debate on Assisted Dying, I'll be backing a change in the law at the earliest opportunity. MPs have the power to make Britain a better place to die - my piece in the Daily Express on why we should take it 👇express.co.uk/news/politics/… Dignity in Dying

In which I get quite grumpy explaining how govt announced increase in defence spending of £75bn at cost of £4.4bn.

Misleading, inconsistent & opaque way of describing an important policy.

Labour are no better - promise to reach 2.5% of GDP 'when conditions allow' is meaningless

My rant against the dodgy government presentation of its defence numbers. we should not have to rely on Ben Chu Ben Zaranko to decode the figures for us. Come on HM Treasury - get a grip.

Radiation sees no borders or national flags. The Chornobyl disaster demonstrated how rapidly deadly threats can emerge. Tens of thousands of people mitigated the Chornobyl disaster at the cost of their own health and lives, eliminating its terrible consequences in 1986 and the…

A nice demonstration of two things:

1) De-funding the police is bad, actually, and results in more crime, disproportionately harming the poor.

2) Short-term cost-saving exercises often end up resulting in negative impacts that cost far more to fix than they initially saved.

I have hired a lot of these young people who've gone through this 'totalitarian indoctrination' and have found them to be thoughtful, pragmatic and hardworking. If they herald a dark age, sign me up for the Dark Age of Diligence.

Today, I'm announcing a first-ever national goal to transition to a zero-emissions freight sector.

This is about protecting the health of families who live and work near highways, ports, railyards, and other routes today – and building a better freight system for tomorrow.

What are the most frequented flight routes in Europe?

A whopping 43 flights between London and Amsterdam departed every day last year, making it the second-busiest route in Europe despite a direct 4-hour train alternative.

It’s time to rethink how we travel in Europe.

Central Edinburgh is probably up there with what is perceived as the most 'hard to treat'. Flats, solid walls, large single glazed windows, large spaces, heritage.

We just need to look across the water to see how to do it but the required political will is still not there.

A sad day for Britain. Passing laws that assert lies the government wish to be true is not something healthy political systems do.

My thoughts are with all those now at risk of deportation to an unsafe country.

And to be clear, by stopping war I mean making sure that Ukraine has the sufficient resources (eg weapons, planes etc) to win this war ASAP.

Great work by Conflict and Environment Observatory (CEOBS), especially after Anton Gerashchenko tweet this morning about the new bombs Russia is dropping. War is a terrible thing in multiple dimensions. Those of us working for SE & a NZ system have to cont. that vital work. BUT stopping war is an impt part of that.
