We have a great corn crop brewing in North Central IN. Don’t stop scouting/managing yet: found southern rust for sure in Carroll county and likely Fulton county as well.

Continue to scout corn - tar spot (left map) and southern rust (right map) are active across Indiana. If your county in IN is not highlighted and you suspect either disease please send a sample into the @PurduePPDL free of charge with support from Indiana Corn. Purdue Extension

Here are the results from our corn plot with the U of I. Pioneer products only. P0924Q won the plot with a yield of 267.7. P0953AM finished 2nd at 263.7. Important to note that this plot did not have fungicide, allowing the scores on disease and staygreen to be visible.

Tar Spot scouting: If you see a black dot on corn, lick your thumb and rub. If spot comes off it is not tar spot. It’s a fly speck! Personally I think it’s 2 early, 2 dry, and 2 hot to see tar spot yet. But you never know #tarspot #plant22 #corn Pioneer Seeds U.S. #TheMoreYouKnow

Same here. Many that previously hadn’t had it are mistaking black insect spots for Tar Spot. Tar Spot sticks just like the name implies…everything else smears or wipes away.
