I find this headline odd. The ocean is emitting PFAS precisely because it has been used as a dumping ground for industrial pollutants for decades

The extent AND severity of coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef in 2024 is by far the worst ever recorded.

It would make you weep (again).

Its no wonder our rivers are dying. In Wales 80% of dairy farms inspected between 2020 and 2022 were non-compliant with anti-pollution regulations. theguardian.com/environment/20…

Very excited about our new paper! Lisbeth Hordley & I show that if you have long grass in your garden you’ll see more butterflies, that more long grass is better & that the effects are greater for gardens in more urban & arable landscapes. sciencedirect.com/science/articl… 🧵

SSSIs in are on average in worse condition than those elsewhere 📉

There's also a staggering lack of data on monitoring protected areas making it difficult to know how they're doing within the Parks🙄

Stand strong Scotland and UK. In this case the EU is completely wrong, highjacked by the most regressive elements of its fishing lobby.

Little Terns en route from Africa... Your 2024 Gronant home is under construction. Storms Kathleen and Pierrick remodelled your estate, but we built three pens today. A nice Ringed Plover couple came for a viewing this afternoon.

'Artists who use natural sounds in their recordings can choose to list 'Nature' as a featured artist - and a share of their profits will be distributed to environmental causes.'

Brilliant idea. And hats off to BBC's photo editor too.

03.30 alarm worth every bit of deprived sleep to experience the orchestra of several dozen Black Grouse and a couple of pairs of Curlews, while helping Clwydian Range and Dee Valley National Landscape with the annual lek count this morning. Breakfast at Oneplanet Adventure was a perfect end to the start of the day.

Last month, the UK announced it will close sandeel fisheries. This was fantastic news for nature at sea.

‼️ But now, the EU decided to legally challenge the UK's measure to close sandeel fisheries, caving into the pressure from Denmark and Sweden.

Sandeels are forage fish

More ecological grief, how many more wonderful, intriguing species will slip away before we take it seriously? They have no voice other than us. ‘These birds are telling us something serious is happening’: the songbirds disappearing from Britain’s woods theguardian.com/environment/20…

The EU has lodged a complaint regarding the sandeel closure due to concerns regarding the impact to danish fishers. With 62% of seabird species in decline (likely higher since HPAI), this closure is much needed to protect prey (that were struggling) telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/04/1…
