George Hott, 97, of Moorefield, one of earliest inductees into Shepherd University Athletics Hall of Fame, former pro athlete and coach for the Yellow Jackets, died Thursday. Of note, his baseball team delivered Jefferson's first loss in history in 1973.

Fun fact, Moorefield has had just 3 baseball coaches since George Hott spurned the Washington Redskins to take the job in 1957. He’s a member of the WV Baseball Coaches association HOF

Legendary Moorefield athlete/coach George Hott died last week at 97. Hott batted over .300 in the Pirates organization, co-captained Shepherd's 1st unbeaten football season and turned down the Redskins for a HOF coaching career. More on a well-lived life: times-news.com/sports/local_s…
