Can we stop calling National Museum Wales ‘an attraction’. We are not at risk of losing a theme park here. We are at risk of losing an institution that offers free education to millions of people and showcases Welsh culture and the National Treasures of Wales to the world.

If the national museum closed (even if it moved elsewhere) it would be a national embarrassment. This is one of the key institutions that led to the rebirth of the Welsh nation in the late 19th/early 20th century. In the heart of our capitals civic area.

Desperately sad news.
Museums are treasure houses of objects and knowledge, founts of inspiration for future generations, places of wonder - and research. Places that invite us to see ourselves in a deep, wide context.
Our society and culture is impoverished if we lose them.…
