We furthermore underscore our solidarity with students and staff who are being subjected to police violence and to restrictions on their right to free speech and assembly on campus, and call upon the German government to safeguard these constitutionally-guaranteed rights. 3/3

This is part of a broader trend by which universities have placed significant restrictions on freedom of expression regarding Palestine. We are also concerned that a pattern is emerging whereby these restrictions are disproportionally targeting women of colour. 2/3

We call on the University of St Andrews to clarify whether the views of a (prospective) funder have influenced the Court’s decision to remove the Rector; reinstate the Rector’s status and position in the University Court; publicly apologise to Rector Maris. 3/3
