Incredible work by Nacoa 🔆 supporting #Children impacted by parental #Alcohol use

2/2: These deaths were entirely preventable. Why is the government banning smoking, deaths from which are in decline, when there is no strategy whatsoever to prevent alcohol harm, which is on the rise? It's a failure in public health policy that needs to be urgently addressed

THREAD, alcohol harm 1/2: Yesterday, the Office for National Statistics released latest figures that showed 10,048 people died in 2022 directly because of alcohol. This is a 32.4% rise since pre-pandemic 2019.

Alcohol related deaths are at the highest levels ever, whilst recover centres are closing and 80% of those who need help are not getting it.
Nacoa 🔆 has seen a huge increase in calls to their helpline and they receive no Government funding. Follow, like, share, support.

Right now, more people than ever before are dying in the UK from alcohol related causes.

Nacoa has seen a huge rise in calls from children relating to bereavement.

Despite the urgent need, government has cut its entire strategy for children affected.

Worrying new statistic from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) given the estimated 3 million children in the UK living with parental alcohol problems (@NacoaUK)

We are a specialist service for women, children and families affected by substance misuse, please don’t struggle alone.

Nacoa 🔆 shared “The rate of alcohol-specific deaths for males is double that for females, female alcohol deaths have increased by 42% in that time.”

Data released today reveals that a record number of 10,048 people died in the UK in 2022 as a direct result of their drinking.

It has increased 32.8% since 2019, with 16.6 per 100,000 people now dying wholly due to alcohol.
