Reason #83297 why students working in groups is important: I ran into a student from 5 years ago at Target yesterday and she mentioned that her group members still keep in touch! I always think about the missed opportunities of friendships if I didn't have students collaborate.

Like many teachers, I keep notes from former students. One of my absolute favorites came from a student that wrote, "I made friends in this class." It was important to me because this academically strong freshman not only found his voice in the classroom, but I saw others listen.
