A colleague has got in touch to point me to another chapter of the 20th century past - Jewish refugees from the Nazis fleeing to Central Asia, and the music they made there. Michael Rossi made this for BBC Radio 3 about the ‘lost songs’ 🔽

There is so much more I could have said .. Uzbekistan is where Ulugh Beg’s observatory was mapping stars in the 15th century, and the native region of the man from whom we get the word ‘algorithm’. But mainly this is about travels with my mother!
