So this is Rupert Murdoch reading my book on universal basic income, the 15-hour workweek, and open borders around the globe. I'm sure he'll love it. dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/arti…

Waking up to this news with the added injury of the complete erasure of Black African lives lost in this tragic crash. How do you call sorrow mixed with anger?

Most of the taxes we pay only happen when money changes hands — when we earn or spend money — not on the money we actually have. Elizabeth Warren’s plan to tax wealth tries to fix that.

This shocks me, from discussions w/ @GaiaScottGold & Josh Budlender: In SA, growth in food prices > GNI pc for many years. Using 2015 survey incomes, adjusting incomes by GNIpc & using each year's StatsSA poverty line, Food poverty rose from 20% to 24% *before* the pandemic.

(We don't have comparable annual estimates of poverty in SA! Eg, StatsSA pov brief in 2020 had to use 2015 survey: statssa.gov.za/?p=13438 @GaiaScottGold, Josh Budlender and I are trying to update this data, incl. looking into pov trends above -- hopefully more on this soon!)

A nice article by Claire Bisseker discussing, amongst other things, the results of our recently released working paper and Ihsaan & Josh Budlender's Daily Maverick op-ed businesslive.co.za/fm/features/20…

Is it possible to make an accessible thread about economic theory? Well, let's try. Let me try to explain to you why: * minimizing inequality is not the same as maximizing the income of the poorest, * why economic modeling forgot this for a long time, and * why it matters.

Sidenote: In forthcoming work with Ihsaan & MayaGoldman, we find that if QLFS is accurate (story for another day), pretty much all the poverty reduction between 2020Q2 (height of lockdown) & 2021Q4 (latest data) is attributable to the SRD, as the labour market stagnated

Hi #EconTwitter, For anyone who values #inclusion and respectful listening during seminars, here's a must-read article on the practice of interrupting speakers, particularly when men interrupt women. Especially relevant during the #economics job market season.

Here: a tool to inform donor strategies, to strengthen #researchuptake of #evidence on the #equity impacts of #fiscalpolicy and #budgeting processes lnkd.in/dNXRf-x5. I'm curious whether you can imagine using this type of tool in your own international research work.
