All those spaces we try to nurture for nature. Yellowhammers already under threat from dog walkers who create a circuit off public paths, dogs scaring low nesting birds. So we planted more hedges, saved field edges for nature & fabulous yellowhammers. Can’t let it be destroyed.

"We should be investing in the future, rather than making farmers question whether they have one." ICYMI 📻| NFU President Tom Bradshaw (Tom Bradshaw) spoke to LBC News yesterday reacting to Defra UK's New Deal for Farming. Listen at 2:27:44 👉 ow.ly/prWy50UEbsF

15 more cows away today due to TB. In 15 months we’ve lost 45 cows. 40% of the milking herd gone and we are no nearer the end than we were Nov ‘23. I will write more when my head is up to it. It will get better, but for now all you need to know is that it is absolute shite.

The ministerial response continues to show a really ugly side to this government. Against ALL evidence - and on the very day The Labour Party U-turns to accommodate the non-dom super rich - they continue to ignore pleas even to have a conversation about this crippling policy.

The 1 radical thing we should be doing is building the country’s health, based on food produced by us. If you want to drive NHS waiting times down, put better food, produced by UK farmers, in hospitals. Schools, food education, respect for the land! Let’s get society healthy 1st!

Keir Starmer Dear PM, if people ate less processed food and whole UK food, there would be less pressure on the NHS from diet related illnesses! #backbritishfarming 🇬🇧🚜🍽

It’s the most bonkers logic. If Steve Reed accepts farmers don’t make any money, how can we begin this conversation from the starting point of a tax which is many times annual income for a decade?? For many farms, IHT is suddenly their main problem.

James Rebanks (@herdyshepherd1) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The NFU are absolutely right No one wants to dodge tax - we aren’t even eligible anyway - the better tax is on the sale of the land at full rate through clawback The ongoing productive farm wouldn’t pay Really good compromise No one would dodge taxes And it’s revenue neutral

So the second runway at Gatwick has been approved by the government but we have to reduce livestock and eating meat to save the planet . What a complete and utter greenwashing farce !!! #backbritishfarming

5 years ago we as farmers were classed as essential workers, essential to the running of the country, essential to every day life. What’s changed? Talk of military help needed in Ukraine. Foot and Mouth outbreaks in Europe. World leaders not on the same pages. Food security?

The proposed #FamilyFarmTax has been shown to have disastrous consequences for some businesses, and so an improved version has been recommended by experts across many industries which raises the same amount, but avoids those consequences. The Government has rejected the

The spin to end all spin. The Labour Party celebrates the indefinite suspension of SFI - 8 years in development & the only means for farmers to replace lost EU payments. This feels like scorched earth from Treasury. gov.uk/government/new…

Johann Tasker 🇺🇦 Defra UK Alongside de-linked payments being phased out, this means half of all English farmers, if they're to earn a livelihood, now really have only one option - farm the land commercially for all it's worth. Forget biodiversity/environment. Really awful.

A few words on the massive consequences of govt suspending applications to the Sustainable Farming Incentive last night. A disaster not only for farm businesses & the rural economy, but also food security & our nature & climate targets.

James Rebanks (@herdyshepherd1) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This is the weirdest bit Farmers weren’t being subsided - they were being paid to deliver non market goods/public goods to achieve nature restoration It was the UK’s key measure to deliver legally binding international targets…

We are losing land at a rapid rate… and productivity has stalled on what remains… and population is growing And our food system is fragile and ‘just in time’ based increasingly on imports, in a wider world that’s now unstable and where demand is growing so exports vulnerable
