We analyzed for the first time the frontal sinuses of three fossil species: Eucyon adoxus from the Late Pliocene of St. Esteve, France (~3 Ma), Eucyon monticinensis from Cava Monticino, Italy (~5.4 Ma) and Eucyon davisi from Xiakou, China (~3.5 Ma).

These anatomical structures are useful as phylogenetic and ecological signals helping clarifying biological preferences of these enygmatic forms of fossil canids. (Artwork by Cecilia Loddi).
