The Tories got 44% of votes but 56% of seats in our archaic First-Past-The-Post voting system and so could implement policies against our will.

We need a better politics where parties collaborate to find solutions to long-term issues.

Over the weekend we were at the Liberal Democrat Spring conference. It was great to hear the continued commitment to Proportional Representation from the party, as well as to participate in a packed panel event with Unlock Democracy and Operation Black Vote!

For the Conservative and Labour parties, the current system suits them.

It lets the Conservatives in most of the time, despite the majority of people voting against them.

But Labour knows – if they wait long enough, their turn will come.

We must win the fight for fair votes.
