Long hair: A thread. I get a lot of comments on my hair, and while it's something I am known for, what's less known is that my long hair is important to me culturally, too, and the older I get, the more it matters. 120 years ago today, the "haircut order" was issued. More...👇🏽

I wrote a blog post explaining how attention to quality can sometimes improve delivery speed for the task at hand. In other words, quality and productivity are not always a tradeoff haskellforall.com/2024/07/qualit…

Congratulations to Mike Cannon-Brookes 👨🏼‍💻🧢🇦🇺, who just received government approval to build the world's largest renewable and storage project. Sun Cable is a preposterously large (24GW+) solar and wind farm plus an improbably long electricity cord. reneweconomy.com.au/sun-cable-plib…

Talking to a couple of friends who are in enterprise architecture about career paths. What drove us away from being hands-on developers was frustration with limitations to our impact, seeing organisations continuing to make bad decisions. 1/

I learned so much overseeing the same codebase for 12 years. Going from 10 person startup, to selling the company, to scaling out at the big co that bought us.

My father, who is Yaqui, used to take me into the Sonoran desert in and around the reservation. The land was always a character in his stories, and what I learned from him about the land and its landmarks directly influenced DOOM's abstract-level design.

Apparently people you've blocked can see your tweets now. Good time to remind friends that while I'll probably keep lurking here, I mostly post on on Mastodon these days hachyderm.io/@kenbot

for me, one of the telltale signs for bad process is when the team drops it under pressure for example, if you skip a weekly team meeting when the team needs to be “heads down” then consider deleting the meeting good process makes a team more effective under pressure, not less

Btw, string diagrams are amazing for mapping out service request-response pipelines, especially if you have a bunch of complex middlewares. Requests, responses, and errors are lines; middlewares and handlers are boxes. Middlewares can contain other middlewares.
