Counterpoint: no, it won't. The correct analogy is with cars in the mid-20th century. They spread rapidly, were used foolishly, and were associated with much suffering. Then they were regulated, and social norms emerged around their use that made them safer.

I love this, and it represents staggering progress. An ethnically diverse secondary school in a poor part of London churning out sharp-elbowed teenagers who are determined to go to university and break into middle-class jobs: unimaginable 50 years ago.

Great post. In Britain, one of the most successful reforms of the past decade and a half (to schools management) was rolled out in a way that made rigorous academic evaluation almost impossible.
