So true - and a serious collapse in legal aid for asylum in Bristol, which was almost the only venue for advice in the whole South West. Now down to only 5 legal aid organisations in Bristol with capacity last year for around 2-300 cases between them. Far below need in the SW.

Thanks all SolidariTee for an inspiring and engaging day, great questions, listening to me talk about the massive shortage of legal aid, a chance to catch up with the fabulous Minoo Jalali, and excellent pie and cake. Truly the best conference cake in a very long time.

Given the delay in reporting Review of Civil Legal Aid (RoCLA), several immigration related organisations have shared their evidence submissions- some of the 'mountain' of evidence RoCLA received. Ministry of Justice there's an urgent need for interim uplift to fees

The brief also highlights theπŸ”‘research by Justice Together Initiative 🧑 Dr Jo Wilding πŸ’™ indicating why & how some Local Authorities already fund/commission immigration legal advice, showing how it is cost-effective, prevents destitution, and benefits public health.

Exactly this. Seeing clients University of Sussex Migration Law Clinic who have been jailed for illegal arrival, with ongoing asylum claim that will certainly succeed, separated from wife & newborn baby in one case. Pointlessly cruel and also a waste of money. Grow up & accept that people flee for safety.

If you’re in need of a smile, I’d like to remind you that one word for your intestines in the 14th century (first recorded in a translation of the Bible) was β€˜arseropes’.

Also cuts to legal aid and advice services, meaning there's no way to challenge the poor housing, withdrawal of social care, denial of welfare benefits.

We had a similar scenario for a client at University of Sussex Migration Law Clinic , jailed for illegal entry having arrived with heavily pregnant wife. He was arrested just after she gave birth. Also from a high grant rate country. Coincidence or are they actually targeting new dads??
