Letter in today's Winnipeg Free Press from University of Manitoba prof Darja Barr. "The MB govt’s decision to eliminate all subject-area requirements for pre-service teachers is a big miss — from misinterpreted research, to misrepresented contexts, misguided policy and a misled public."

1/2 As a cautionary example, a University of Manitoba prof claimed "research shows" 15 times in a Winnipeg Free Press article to justify dropping subject requirements for MB teachers. We checked the research she cited—none supported the claims, most contradicted them. She influenced policy.
