We can be proud of our world-leading universities. But reporting from openDemocracy shows how this reputation can be damaged by secretive donors.

That's why Robert Buckland & I wrote to Gillian Keegan MP calling for total transparency and due diligence on the sourceĀ ofĀ donations.

After 10.5 years, Iā€™ve been laid off by openDemocracy.

This round of redundancy included most of the UK team. Three longstanding sections - oDR, ourEconomy and democraciaAbierta - were all also shut/mothballed in the last 6 months: a total of 21 journalists redundant.

Iā€™ve been made redundant from openDemocracy along with several of the kindest, most supportive and talented people Iā€™ve had the honour of working with

Iā€™m now looking for new opportunities. Here are some of the stories Iā€™m most proud of:

Gutted to see so many reporters made redundant openDemocracy. Was a pleasure working with Ramzy Alwakeel Adam Bychawski Anita Mureithi ruby lott-lavigna. They are fantastic at what they do. If you're looking for talented editors and journalists, they should be your first call.

šŸšØi am being made redundant, alongside many of my amazing colleagues at openDemocracy

it is a sad day for radical, not-for-profit media (but also this seems strangely inevitable in this industry)

here are some pieces i'm proud of:

Depressing news. I wrote for OD years ago from Angola, and have followed its ups & downs ever since. As well as many superlative journalists losing their jobs, behind the scenes Julian Richards (without doubt, the smartest editor I've ever had) is also losing his.
