The book is extraordinary, as everyone says. Beware, though. It's boobytrapped. Not this passage, however, which I’ve written out as a poem, as a psalm, which is what it is. The whole book is biblical. Fierce subjectivity burns itself into glass.

Depressing news. I wrote for OD years ago from Angola, and have followed its ups & downs ever since. As well as many superlative journalists losing their jobs, behind the scenes Julian Richards (without doubt, the smartest editor I've ever had) is also losing his.

This is really unfortunate news. Ramzy, and the team of reporters and writers working with him, has done excellent work at oD. If you work in media you should grab the opportunity and give them jobs.
