Bessie Lillian Gordy was born August 15, 1898 to James and Mary Ida Gordy in Richland, Georgia, a town a few miles west of Plains. This undated photo of “Miss Lillian” shows her as a baby and is part of the museum collection at Plains High School.

Students at Plains High School would have used typewriters similar to the one pictured here in typing class. Using the skills gained here students could have entered the work force or used this skill in advancing their education.

During the years Plains High School was in operation the auditorium was used for plays, recitals, spelling bees, and morning assembly. Today it is used to show the JCNHS introductory film, host plays & events used for the educational program, & for a wide variety of local events.

First and second grade students enjoyed a presentation this morning from Ms. Marle and Park Ranger Patty from the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site. In 1997 Palestenian Authority Pres. Arafat brought this sculpture of Da Vinci’s The Last Supper to Plains. He presented it to Pres. Carter at Maranatha Baptist to thank him for his efforts to bring peace to the Middle East. On exhibit at our renovated Plains High School museum!
