ENGLISH TEACHERS: what are the worst things you’ve seen recommended by TikTok influencers? I’m putting a ‘red flags’ resource together to help students judge what’s nonsense… will share. Just want to see if I’m missing anything!

One of the most important things, I reckon, to get right in classroom culture. I unpack this on my Substack open.substack.com/pub/marymyatt/…

We had a CPD session this afternoon on inclusivity and keeping pupils in the classroom who might have previously had a “time out” card. Look at this incredible resource my colleague Mrs Henshall has created 👌🏼 #edutwitter #inclusion

So fascinating Rachel Johnson PiXL - I gave two colleagues the words for quadrant 1 - they did them independently and only had one word out of 10 that was different. Blew my mind!

My first resource share in a while. Here’s a Language Paper 2 (reading section) revision lesson to help with that final push before exams. thehappyteacherhub.co.uk/thehappyteache…

🚨 Spoiler: Teaching like it’s 1995 won’t cut it. What does modern pedagogy look like in 2025 and beyond? Time to rethink how we define great teaching.👇 buff.ly/DmJpLyZ via TeachThought #education #learning #k12

What does explicit instruction look like in science? Some, but not all, NGSS directives are at odds with an explicit approach. The one-pager below aims to bring clarity to where's there's overlap and space between the two approaches. Please give your (constructive) feedback!

This! I love the concept of a hinge question on a MWB. I’ll be using this strategy as I work on being more intentional about assessment FOR, not of learning. Jamie Clark teaching one pagers are such an efficient way to learn about and incorporate evidence-based practices. 👏

Doing fewer things in deeper depth can be critical to support better learning. Mary Myatt takes the stage, making the case for doing less and diving into the difference between "Need to know" vs "Neat to know" at the #PiXLNationalConference 🙌

Who else is concerned that formative assessment, end of unit tests & data drops are damaging learning at KS3? They end up shrinking what's taught to what can be assessed. In English this is a v big problem. If it isn't in the written assessment, it's seen as a naughty diversion.
