The Society enjoyed a busy and successful day hosting a table in the ‘Clans Tent’ at the Inverness Highland Games yesterday, which also included marching alongside 21 Highland Clans in the opening ceremony parade.

The window for 2024/25 Society Membership renewals has now closed. Members who have not yet renewed will be removed from the Membership Roll in the coming weeks, if you have yet to renew we would advise doing so as soon as possible.

The Society will be at the Ballater Highland Games on 08 August 2024 with a display of heraldic items and members will again be taking part in the Parade through the village with banners flying. Society President, Dr. Joe Morrow as Lord Lyon will also be attending.

While strictly speaking this is not a ‘sanctioned’ use of the MacLaren of MacLaren and Achleskine Arms, nevertheless it is a rather innovative and interesting use of Scots Heraldry….a fencing mask. 📸 Jonathan Patterson

The Society were delighted to appear at the Ballater Highland Games last week hosting a stall to promote Scots Heraldry Society President The Lord Lyon attended as a special guest to open the games themselves, and participated in this great short video by Dr Deborah Daly

Australian Commissioner for Clan MacKinnon, Andrew MacKinnon bears his own arms in the joust at the Highland Spectacular in Ballarat, Australia over the weekend. Andrew led the Scots team to victory and received the famous Tarskavaig Toothpick sword from the Earl of Loudoun ⚔️

The Queen’s Stall Plate and banner as Lady of Scotland’s Most Ancient & Most Noble Order of the Thistle in St Giles' Cathedral

I was thrilled to be on duty at Balmoral Castle as HM The King presented a new pipe banner I had worked on to the RAF. With my personal & professional links to the RAF it was an honour to hand over the documentation from the Lyon Court to the ACM Harv Smyth and RAF in Scotland

The letters patent granting the indifferenced arms to the Chief of Clan Carruthers (Gules two chevrons engrailed betwixt three fleur-de-lys Or) were painted by Yvonne Holton.

Members of the Committee attended the swearing-in of the new, and newly promoted Officers of Arms tonight in Edinburgh during a formal sitting of the Lyon Court. A thoroughly enjoyable and moving event, congratulations to all involved and to the new / promoted Officers of Arms

The Lord Lyon held a Head Court at the Court of Session yesterday during which Sheriff George Way of Plean was sworn in as Rothesay Herald.

We note with sadness the death of Lady Saltoun, Chief of Clan Fraser. May she rest in peace.
