Every morning I open Twitter and see yet more posts about whether or not the archaeology of southeast Türkiye is damaged 🤬Just stop. Millions of people have had their lives turned upside down. 18 students from our faculty are still unaccounted for

It was six years ago, and my mate, Pink, had just been told he was going to die. He accepted the news with a grace I can only marvel at, but he said he’d a list of things he’d still like to do.

We sat in a pub one night and read it over. Eight things? Four months? Ok. Deal.

Sigidimnak Nox Ts’aawit (Dr. Amy Parent) with SFU Faculty of Education visited Scotland and it was the first time anyone in the family had seen the memorial pole in more than 90 years. The Ni’isjoohl memorial pole will be the first totem pole successfully repatriated from the U.K.

We’re pleased to announce that National Museums Scotland will be transferring the House of Ni'isjoohl Memorial Pole to the Nisga’a Nation.

A Nisga’a delegation visited us in August to see the Pole and to make a formal request for its return.

Thinking about the ridiculousness of claims by Hancock and others like him that academic archaeologists are hiding the “truth” from the world. These arguments gain traction in part because of the way publishing research works. Academic writing is often not accessible

Yes, archaeology exists because of colonialism. No, that is not a good thing. The idea that local people could not look after their heritage until white colonisers came is a product of colonial thinking and white supremacy. The future of archaeology lies in redressing these harms
