UMAW wants artists to get 1¢/stream. I'd love that too, but the disconnect from reality is irresponsible. Spotify had ~175,000,000,000 streams in Q4 2023 (source: MLC). That would be $1,750,000,000 in additional royalties payable, or twice Spotify's Q4 profit margin.

How do royalties actually work? Here's the rate sheet for one of *eight* different Spotify plans; each with different calculations, pools, deductions, royalties -- and this is just for mechanical royalties on the publishing side, in the US.
