🧬 Tieto geeneistämme karttuu vauhdilla: moni on tehnyt DNA-testin tai luovuttanut näytteensä biopankkiin. 🎧 Tuoreessa Tiedekulma podcastissa puhutaan siitä, miten geenit vaikuttavat terveyteen. Nina Mars Mikko Niemi University of Helsinkimed @helsinkiuni open.spotify.com/episode/5218dx…

Thank you Veera Rajagopal  for a lovely summary and context for our preprint describing a missense variant in VE-PTP (PTPRB) associated with central serous chorioretinopathy, glaucoma, and varicose veins. Great follow-up questions that need to be resolved for therapeutic development.

Do oral and non-oral lichen planus share the same genetics? Yes (20) and no (7)! Our new paper AJHG using FinnGen reveals genetic heterogeneity between the two, with differential risk for autoimmune diseases and oral cancer cell.com/ajhg/fulltext/…. 1/7

Our core team had a great time at the annual get-together in Helsinki! We kicked things off with some productive teamwork sessions, followed by an inspiring guided tour at the modern art museum Kiasma, and wrapped it all up with a delicious dinner. Thanks to everyone who joined!

GenomiTerveys-hankkeessa biopankit ovat rakentaneet toimintamallin, jolla FinnGenistä ja muista biopankkitutkimuksista palautuvaa tietoa näytteenantajan perinnöllisestä sairastumisriskistä voidaan huomioida terveydenhuollossa. A large international research team has uncovered genetic factors that predispose women to a genetic phenomenon where some cells lose one of their two X chromosomes (mLOX). The Nature study by Aoxing Liu et al. included almost 170,000 FinnGen participants. finngen.fi/en/new-insight…

An international research team has developed a proteomics-based age clock for UK Biobank participants and validated its accuracy in the China Kadoorie Biobank and FinnGen. Proteomic aging is associated with mortality, risk of many chronic diseases and numerous age-related traits.

FinnGen has contributed to these interesting new results showing that a protein-based age clock of 204 proteins can accurately predict chronological age and the risk of common age-related diseases: ox.ac.uk/news/2024-08-0…
