Heterosexual people have the language to talk about who they love in a dignified manner. Therefore, in this context, they are not our preoccupation as #FindNewWords. We are focused on the black LBGTQQIAP+ community because the current language is violent and derogatory to us.

Participants in our Soweto workshop submitted the word SEGKELE SA MOOKODI. The word simply translates to the ‘the rainbow umbrella’ and it can be used as an umbrella term for the LGBTQQIAP+ community. #FindNewWords Visit findnewwords.org/wordlist to view and submit more words.

The word "WA LERATO PEDI" can be used to describe bisexual people. What we like about this term is that it focuses on attraction and not on what happens in the bedroom. View and submit more words here: findnewwords.org/wordlist.

As a 28-year-old Xhosa cis gay man, I would not be able to “come out” in Xhosa, which is my home language. I would have to use the term “gay,” as it is the only non-offensive word that is used to describe us in South Africa. -@Pumlani_Kango via @Into intomore.us/2R4HwNN
