My toughest audience to date! Take Your Child to Work Day is always a big hit at #FDNY Headquarters. It’s wonderful to see how proud these children are that their mom or dad works for the FDNY. I hope many are inspired to follow in their footsteps.

It was incredibly moving to sit with the family & friends of Robert Lowery, #FDNY ’s first Black Fire Commissioner at the film premiere of “The First: Fire Commissioner Robert O. Lowery’s Story.” I hope you’ll watch the film & see how his legacy lives on in everything we do today.

Friday, #FDNY Fire Marshals made their first arrest under NYC Local Law 39. The law prohibits the sale, lease, rental, or distribution of powered micro-mobility devices like e-bikes, e-scooters, & batteries unless they have been certified by an accredited testing laboratory.

It’s National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week! The #FDNY wants to recognize our Fire Alarm Dispatchers & Emergency Medical Dispatchers for always answering the call. Fire Alarm Dispatcher Ralph St. Eloi has been with the FDNY for 8 years. He works at PSAC1 covering Brooklyn.

As #WomensHistoryMonth is coming to an end, I find myself reflecting on the women who have made my journey possible. Last year, I was asked what advice I would give to women entering male-dominated fields. I was asked about my own experience.

Tuesday I was on PIX11 News on what proved to be a very busy news day as the city learned about the death of NYPD NEWS Officer Jonathan Diller, & a tragic bridge collapse in Baltimore, MD. Incidents like these highlight the important and dangerous all #firstresponders .

I am heartbroken to hear about the senseless killing of Police Officer Jonathan Diller. Officer Diller was doing his job - protecting the lives of New Yorkers - and needlessly lost his life. My heart goes out to his family and I join the NYPD and the city in mourning his loss.

March is Women’s History Month. I was happy to join #GDNY on FOX 5 NY Monday morning to talk about my role as the first female Fire Commissioner. It’s an honor to hold this role and I am grateful to all the women who have helped me get here.

Recently, I took part in a #WomensHistoryMonth roundtable examining barriers that prevent women from entering the fire service. Hosted by U.S. Fire (USFA) Dr. Lori Moore Merrell & @FEMA it brought fire service leaders from Australia & New Zealand to exchange ideas about recruiting & retaining women.

Ladder 8, an iconic landmark for Ghostbuster buffs, has been transformed to mimic the movie release of #Ghostbusters : Frozen Empire. When the public comes out to show love for the FDNY & the Ghostbusters, we’ll be teaching fire safety, CPR, and other lifesaving skills.

The competition is going to be extra fiery at this year’s New York Road Runners NYC Half Marathon on Sunday. Teams representing 8 city agencies are competing for the Commissioner’s Cup. Last year, NYPD NEWS took the Cup. Hoping we can bring the cup to FDNY HQ this year. Best of luck to all!

The path to becoming an #FDNY #firefighter is not easy. There are early mornings, late nights studying, training, and being away from family. After 18 challenging weeks, they have earned their place amongst the Bravest. I wish each and every one of our graduates success.

As an alumna of the School of International & Public Affairs at Columbia University, it was an honor to join a panel of women leaders at the launch of the @columbiaigp Women’s Initiative moderated by @hillaryclinton. We need to continue encouraging diversity on all levels.

I joined NYC DOT NYCEDC & NYC Consumer and Worker Protection to open the city’s first e-battery charging station. I am hopeful this will lead to less unsafe charging in people’s home where a majority of the lithium-ion battery fires occur & that we can prevent tragedies like last week’s Harlem fire.

For #BlackHistoryMonth , Chief Inspector Fitzroy Benjamin reflects on his 38-years at the #FDNY . He started in the file room and is now responsible for ensuring the safety of New Yorkers, overseeing multiple task force operations including lithium-ion batteries, shelters and more.
