Wednesday, Friday and Saturday of this week are the harvest Ember Days, an ancient custom of three-day periods of fasting and prayer which recur in each of the four seasons of the year. Some explorations of the Ember Days from medieval England: aclerkofoxford.blogspot.com/2018/09/this-f…

After an 1800s robbery, Birmingham’s Quaker bank Lloyds adopted the beehive (or skep) as its symbol. Branches often commissioned local artists to create one. I’ve been documenting these hive treasures — here are a few Midlands finds. 🐝 #Bee #Lloyds #JQ #Digbeth

Really worth watching if you've ever wondered about medieval music and thought 'how do we know it sounded like that?' (Spoiler alert: we don't.) youtu.be/E7ZxLs44xPw?si… #medieval #music #18thcentury

*ELECTRO-MEDIEVAL ALERT!* I thought some of you might like to hear a snippet of what I've been up to for the last 4 years, so this #BandcampFriday (Oct 3rd) I'll make one of the Old French songs available on katearnolduk.bandcamp.com for a limited time. Watch this space for link.

It’s rare for an area to have a unique feature — but the Jewellery Quarter packs plenty into just a square kilometre. I spent a year mapping its historic letterboxes and uncovering their stories. Sadly, with no protection, many are now disappearing to redevelopment. #JQ #Heritage

Delicate details from Highbury Hall in Moseley 🍃🕊️ — where carved leaves and stone songbirds whisper stories of Birmingham’s Arts & Crafts past. A masterpiece of nature and craft woven into wood and stone. #Birmingham #HighburyHall #ArtsAndCrafts #Heritage

Worth thinking about. I've been involved in a few concerts/events in churches and have always felt they were 'in the spirit' of the place as described here. If they weren't I don't think I would participate. I'm not a churchgoer but don't want to see churches exploited.
