The BBC recently ran a story about how climate change is impacting the ski season in Europe. Meanwhile tens of millions of people across the global South face food insecurity and displacement each year. Western discourse on climate is wildly inadequate.

As a society it's as if we have a collective cat brain: fixated on the latest shiny toy that's waving in front of our eyes while in the meantime our tail is on fire.

It’s never been more critical to fight climate change. My heart goes out to everyone suffering through the wildfires on the West Coast of the U.S. and the deadly flooding in Germany and other parts of Europe. Let’s work together on the problem of our generation.

The fantasy that we can break free from Earth and reestablish ourselves in a technological paradise light-years away is a dangerous reaction-formation to the trauma of climate breakdown. And it's everywhere right now. There is no planet B.

Delegates give a resounding applause for all those who contributed to the approval of the Summary for Policymakers of the IPCC Working Group I contribution to the Sixth Assessment Report, what an achievement 🎉 #IPCC closing plenary to take place on time!

Out of curiosity, where were you all thinking of moving after you're done destroying the Earth? Because I assume you've thought that through.

Well my corner of twitter seems to be aware an IPCC report is coming out in a few hours (good!). But that report and its coverage are not sufficient to counter the vast seas of disinformation. 1/

This week, and maybe next week, elected officials and the news media will be paying more attention to the #ClimateCrisis than they usually do. Let's make this time count! 1/n

Just FYI: #IPCC authors are volunteers. We do not get paid to be an author. It means taking on an enormous number of extra hours on top of our 'day jobs'. We do this because we want to give policymakers the evidence they need to take the right decisions.

The "economy" is ultimately our material relationship with each other and with the rest of the living world. As today's IPCC report settles in, we have to decide whether we want that relationship to be based on extraction and exploitation, or on reciprocity and care.

The recent IPCC report had a big focus on methane (CH4) – and rightly so. We should work to cut methane emissions quickly, but not at the expense of cutting CO2. Methane is temporary, while CO2 is forever. A quick thread: 1/13
