Thu morning update from NIDIS Drought.gov continues to show a small part of W KY near Paducah in D1 (Mod Drought) conditions. While NW KY was removed from D0 (abnormally dry) conditions, parts of the Pennyrile region E to Bowling Green/Glasgow show a degradation to D0 this week.

I am honored to have been given the opportunity to discuss our work at NIDIS with Tribal Nations at the National Tribal Leaders Climate Summit. I learned a great deal and made several connections that will help NIDIS better support tribal drought resilience.

What an amazing summit, hearing from tribal leaders and citizens on policy and action. So much great work being done. Impactful words from Dr. Paulette Blanchard to fellow tribal colleagues and relatives: “If you want change, you better be the change maker.”

Dr. Luhui Whitebear wrote a POEM ‼️about what she heard during our first 2 days of the National Tribal Leaders Summit. My favorite part: “water connects all of us.” NIDIS Drought.gov

The National Tribal Leaders Summit, put on by ATNI, has kicked off at Muckleshoot Casino Resort in Washington. I am representing NIDIS Drought.gov and looking forward to learning more about what Tribal Nations are doing to combat climate change.

There are currently lane closures in the 1800 block of Campbell Lane as the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet works to repair a sinkhole under the right turn lane. Use caution or avoid this area until further notice.
