Worrying lack of opportunity for woefully inadequate number of GPs we have in the NHS.

Choices are poor:

Partner - unlimited liability/workload, inadequate investment/unviable contracts

Salaried - unsustainable/unsafe workloads, 33% pay erosion

Locum - risk of unemployment

I'll get in early here and state that, as an elected rep of NE GPs, I oppose same-day hubs as they are a terrible idea seemingly supported mostly by GPs bought and paid for by NHSE.

We don't think doctors are the best people to judge whether someone is too ill to work, so we are giving that job to unqualified private contractors, whose pay will depend on finding everyone fit for work.

NHS England have again cut funding for GP Practices in 2024/25
A 2% increase in funding representing another 2% cut, after years of real terms cuts
Funding has risen from £153/patient/year in 2016 to £165, equivalent to a 20% cut £35
Enough for 2 extra GPs for an average practice

As much as the apology from Amanda Pritchard about the wrong decision by NSH to stop the Practioner Health service is welcome. The question has to be asked as to why this service is in such demand in the first place. Better working conditions for NHS staff is the answer.
