Here’s a thread alleging how the Department of Health Department of Health and Social Care has been sort of spying on me and other elected BMA reps during industrial action by doctors.
Let’s dive in! 🧵

Last night on #BBCQT Wes Streeting MP rightly highlighted the impact GP workload is having on both doctors and patients.
Government urgently needs a plan to address workforce shortages, fairer funding, and autonomy in #GeneralPractice .

**BREAKING** - GP pushback part 2
Here’s a letter General Practice has sent to the leaders of each of the 42 ICBs across England advising them to add our imminent action & crisis to their risk registers. If we revert to core general practice care it will have a huge impact on the system

Summary?
It does when it comes to life expectancy
In the same world?
NHS England Workforce, Training and Education replacing GPs with PAs
Aided by? GP colleagues in senior leadership roles
Ignoring science, governed by hubris

In my role I speak to GPs up & down the country. They all now say ‘enough is enough’. We are witnessing the constructive dismissal of NHS Gen Practice by this govt. We General Practice wrote to NHS England & govt to say we’re in dispute. There’s more to come from GPs. Watch this space…
Today the BMA's GP committee in England has entered into dispute with NHS England over the 2024/25 GP contract. Katie Bramall-Stainer has written to NHS England stating her commitment to finding 'mutually acceptable solutions to this dispute to benefit patients and practices'. [1/2]
So NHS England in their latest guidance says how great it is that surgeries are texting patients & engaging with them.
The reality is that practices are being told that if they exceed a certain number of patient text messages they’ll be penalised & charged. Really? A modern NHS?
I wonder what Department of Health and Social Care NHS England and SoS Ms Atkins would have to say? What a waste of time, effort and money when you could be caring for patients. I’m keen to hear more and help publicise this nonsense.
So here we go again 🎶.For the second time in 3 years I will be wasting time and money putting an extensive commercial bid together, to bid for my own contract. Patients don’t want it ; staff don’t want it ; but Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB do . I am paying for bid writer support this time . Madness
GPC England deputy chair Dr David Wrigley speaking this morning about the GP unemployment crisis and the Government's refusal to provide general practice with the flexibility needed to recruit more GPs.
'This isn't about our pay, this is about our patients.'
Deputy Chairman of the BMA, Dr David Wrigley, expresses his frustration to Nick Ferrari about GP unemployment in the UK.
This is a national crisis & gross failure of our political leaders. 250 patients a week die needlessly due to lack of beds, lack of hptl drs, lack of GPs, lack of social care, lack of nurses. Staff treated poorly by NHS. To add - the model of care is fine theguardian.com/society/2024/a…
We have overwhelmingly voted to reject the Government and NHS England’s 2024/25 GP contract changes.
More than 19,000 GPs and GP Registrars took part in the BMA’s referendum, with over 99% voting ‘no’.
Our message can't be any clearer.

Hi Gordon Smart BBC Radio 5 Live - I’m a GP & we are working our socks off to help our patients. No wonder satisfaction has fallen. 2000 less GPs when govt promised 5000 more. 6 mill more patients & 1.4 mill appointments per day. We’re doing more with less and govt have abandoned us
