The Government's own Department for Work and Pensions #FamilyResourcesSurvey data is very clear - the £20 weekly uplift to #UniversalCredit should never have been removed (gov.uk/government/col…)
Today’s devastating data from Department for Work and Pensions on poverty and food insecurity - Nearly one fifth of the population struggled with basic needs in 2022-23 - 12m people were in absolute poverty with 2.9m children in deep poverty Patrick Butler theguardian.com/society/2024/m…
Including marginal #foodinsecurity , the proportion of #foodinsecure households on #UniversalCredit increased from 56% to 58%
Pre-pandemic 43% of households on #UniversalCredit reported severe and moderate #foodinsecurity 2019-20. In spite of cost-of-living support, 41% of households on #UniversalCredit reported severe and moderate #foodinsecurity in 2022-2023.
A great proportion of households used a food bank compared to last year but still 86% of household reporting severe #foodinsecurity over 30 days did NOT use a food bank
As the Department for Work and Pensions says 'This is the lowest proportion of food-secure households since the introduction of household food security to the FRS in 2019 to 2020. In previous survey years, the proportion of food-secure households has been broadly stable.'
