All of the faculty brutalized, detained, cited by police this morning were folks of color.

BIPOC faculty are severely underrepresented at UW-Madison (even more so than at other PWIs). And yet, the cops still managed to target, abuse & detain BIPOC profs for standing with students and protesting against genocide. So many shameful observations to make about UW’s choices.

These universities are giving police permission to brutalize students, faculty, and staff. There are no protections, no barriers. This should make clear how tightly bound together these institutions are in the carceral state.

I am a professor not a “public figure”.

I will not stay silent while university administrators and politicians use their power to repress students right to protest.

As a teacher whose job it is to help bridge the gap between high school and college, I’m loudly advising students that they shouldn’t go into debt for a school that will arrest, tear gas, and suspend them for exercising their constitutional rights.

universities have never been safe. the veil is being lifted. from sexual violence to hazing to censorship, there is so much hidden violence sanctioned and now ordered by administrators.

I think about the land, how the land holds us, is us, and I know that the land will remember those who stood for justice, and those infected with the sickness of empire who callously disregarded their relations. The land will remember such bravery and such abdication of humanity.

Americans' ahistorical understanding of the US' racist history runs so deep that being historically accurate will have people believing you're a conspiracy theorist.

The #UniversityofSouthDakota has been enforcing a new SD Board of Regents policy (1.7.6) that limits what can be in the email signature of a BOR employee. On 3/13 I received an email stating I was in violation of this policy for including my tribal affiliation and pronouns.
