AUKUS is already destabilizing Australia's relationship in its region, is retooling its universities towards weapon design + development, will cost Australia hundreds of billions of dollars, and may see it become a nuclear waste dump for the US + UK. Canada must not follow suit.

This would introduce highly enriched uranium in to ocean, increase tensions with China and other countries, give more money to the military-industrial complex, undermine the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and cost billions in taxpayer dollars for war instead of peace.

The part of AUKUS Trudeau wants to join is focused on developing autonomous weapons, cyber warfare + electronic warfare capabilities, hypersonic weapons, and more. The other part of AUKUS, in which he's also interested, is about acquiring nuclear-powered submarines.

If Justin Trudeau is interested in Canada joining the new Australian-UK-US military alliance, that means he's interested in helping to develop new high-tech weapons. His interest in the nuclear-powered submarines means further militarizing the Arctic. 🧵
