The replacement vessel Nautica set sail from #Djibouti today at 09:45 en route to Yemen’s Red Sea coast to take on 1 million barrels of oil from the decaying #FSOSafer supertanker. I am excited to be aboard and for the start of the oil transfer next week!

IT HAS BEGUN! Today at 10:45 Yemen time, SMIT Salvage began the transfer of more than 1 mln barrels of oil from the decaying #FSOSafer to the replacement vessel Yemen (formerly Nautica). The transfer should be completed in less than three weeks. #StopRedSeaSpill

The SMIT salvager team left Yemen today, marking the end of a key chapter in UN-led efforts to address the threat to the Red Sea posed by the #FSOSafer. The vessel is stabilized. The oil safely stored. I look forward to further tremendous support from partners to finish the work.
