You can beat 99% of people by

…preparing the night before
…showing up early
…leaving only when the job is done right
…remembering peoples names
…following up
…improving one thing each time

It’s not about being fancy. Doing the basics every time is what makes you advanced.

saw someone complaining about Brightline being a private company providing passenger rail service. My dude. What do you think passenger rail service was in the golden age of rail travel in the late 19th / early 20th century?

This is the worst building in downtown Miami. Maybe the world.

A prison-like facade with parking on the ground floor surrounded by more prison gates.

Absolutely disgusting.

I hate how cliche it is but one of the most powerful alchemical tools we have available to us as humans really is gratitude. Placing attention on the here-ness and the goodness of things transforms them/us so viscerally it's a bit insane.

Elon Musk just bragged that AVs will allow cars to be used 50 hours a week as opposed to about 10 hours/week today.

How is this a good thing? It means a lot more traffic, a lot more sprawl, and a lot more crashes.

He's blind to negative externalities at the societal level.

I did before/afters of some completed projects I helped design:

-US 40 Shared Use Path - Baltimore
-Knox St - Dallas
-Henderson Ave - Dallas
-Granada Blvd - Coral Gables

Many involved converting car space to pedestrian space. Moving curbs inward shouldn't be underestimated.

Unpopular opinion: Almost every transportation technology after railroads has massive negative externalities and EVs/AVs will probably be the same.

“unconditional” relationships make you feel loved and safe but conditional relationships teach you the most — they force you to learn about incentives, boundaries, to self-regulate, to adapt, and ultimately to discern who you should and shouldn’t surround yourself with

Our continual connection to social media makes us prone to new forms of viral emotional effects. These are not media designed for calm reflection.

Mark R. Brown, AICP Car dependent suburbia burns cash. Suburbanites who believe their way of life is economical have no idea what the actual costs are. Most Americans would be stunned to learn that the average traffic light costs between $200K to $500K.
