A beautiful day for the penultimate session of our NHSN 'Botanists Year' course and such a pleasure to lead the group to Hareshaw Linn for a closer look at some 'frustrating' ferns. 14 species, not bad going! 👀🌱

Lovely to catch up with Beech Fern (Phegopteris connectilis) today at Hareshaw Linn. Only the second time I've seen it! #botany #ferns

Two exciting #urbanflora finds from North Shields today. Four-leaved Allseed (Polycarpon tetraphyllum) still in it's well-known alley and more surprising, Small Toadflax (Chaenorhinum minus) in the riverside pavement.

A wee yarden success story. Seems my attempts to recreate a Lindisfarne dune slack were kinda successful... Marsh Pennywort, Creeping Willow, Parsley Water-dropwort, N'Marsh Orchid, Lesser Spearwort and assorted sedge all doing well 😁🌱

I’m speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live later today about my recent Ghost Orchid find - the second UK sighting in 37 years. It’s wonderful to see genuine enthusiasm about the find and plants in general - if you want to know more about plants please check out BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland and consider membership

A duo of dodgy Sorbus from today's wander in Newcastle, both self-sown in riverside stonework. Haven't the foggiest with cultivated Rowans but will give it a try... 😬 #urbanflora

Can you top finding an 'extinct' moth in the trap?? ... well I guess finding an adult near it's food plant and apparent signs of munching might just do it - I think the Norfolk Snout is back (assuming it ever if went away?)
