I'm very proud of my ex-MSc student Monday Mdluli for publishing his second book. This time, a children's book on bats. This is one of his contributions to bat conservation!

Despite having lots of work and limited time, we all downed tools and fell silent to listen when the Uirapuru or Musician Wren started to sing - as indigenous folklore says all forest animals do. A magical experience, fortunately the Audiomoths kept running to capture it.

Almost 800 samples ready for sequencing with help of Bat Conservation International scholarship 🙌🏼. Months of work in tiny little volumes of liquid… from catching 🦇 in Zambia and Ghana, to extracting DNA from samples 🧬, amplifying mitochondrial markers, to preparing products 😮‍💨. Off they go🤞🏽
