Northern has cancelled hundreds of trains, forcing many passengers to use bus replacements for the next 8 weeks. But Northern is still charging the same for a ticket on the bus as it did the train. Is that fair? I asked its Managing Director David Brown. (It took a few goes.)

Northern Rail's emergency timetable has reduced cancellations. 124 trains, 6% of total, cancelled or more than 30 mins late today, compared to 17% on Friday. But North Manchester still suffered 21% either cancelled or very late today, Lancashire & Cumbria inter-urban lines 18%.

Was on this service too and after finally leaving Bolton, the brand new train then broke down twice before Salford with alarms ringing. Chris Green please make improving the public transport a priority in your new term.
