The Statute Law Database officially hosts the text of parliament-made law. However, unfortunately, the database has not been kept wholly up-to-date. What the official website tells you is current binding law, is not, necessarily, current binding law. #LewishamEast #Byelection

About half of the legislation is up-to-date to the present day, therefore the other half is not up-to-date (see legislation.gov.uk/help) It is democratically necessary that the public should be able to know the laws by which it is bound. #LewishamEast #Byelection

One to follow for Legal Twitter: Charles Carey is running for Parliament to raise awareness of the need for free, comprehensive and up-to-date public access to our legislation. It sounds niche, but is fundamental. The lack of public access to the text of the law is a disgrace.

Large parts of legislation.gov remain out of date and inaccurate. Support BAILII does a brilliant job, but is a charity and dependent on contributions, and so is limited by funding. As more and more people are forced to self-represent, the need for full access to law is vital.

UK primary legislation can be accessed free in most cases but not up to date. To be up to date and complete in the UK requires a subscription service. It’s time for change.
