Nice day for a walk! Wednesday was some state-promoted day for a 30-minute walk as part of Iowa's healthiest state program. This group, organized by The Avenues of Ingersoll and Grand, walked from 29th ML King and returned.

Voss Distributing employees planted 90 trees today for Trees Forever along 12th and 13th Streets north of Euclid.

Annie’s Foundation was among the sponsors of yesterday's Banned Books Festival at Franklin Junior High. The nonprofit group has given away 4,000 free banned or challenged books locally in the last year.

Five blocks of Park Avenue (37th to 42nd) were resurfaced this week by InRoads. Working overtime to reopen four blocks and wrap up this past Wednesday—ahead of schedule. Awesome city project management by Brett Lewis.

Perfect running morning yesterday for the Des Moines IMT Marathon events! I had a second-place 5k finish (31:14 chip time) in the 70-74 age-group. Craig Lein shot this snap at Principal Park less than a mile from the Court Avenue finish line.

The City of Des Moines now has a network of 10 odor monitors that provide 24/7 odor data of three industries in the area of SE 18th and Maury. Having pin-point data for each of the three businesses will help the City and businesses improve air quality.

Another new playground was assembled earlier this month for a Des Moines park--this one at McHenry Park in Ward 2. This is the third new playground assembled this year by volunteers or city employees using comp days.
