Block out your day, so you have no distractions. Make sure your workspace is clean and tidy and have plenty of coffee! #SageInspire

Use software which pulls transactions from my bank account. I then reconcile these transactions monthly to account codes such as Travel/Postage. At the end of the year I have a clear picture of income/expenditure. I then appoint an accountant check/submit the return #SageInspire

As a sole trader my income can be very sporadic, I have to keep track of my invoices. The best way to do this is using accounting software, you can easily create branded invoice templates & set reminders. I then run reports monthly to see my year-to-date earnings #SageInspire

If it is your first tax return, I think it is wise to pay someone to complete it for you. From then on, you have a template to follow - if your business stays the same only the figures will change. #SageInspire

I've been submitting self assessments for about 8 years now, so I only use my accountant as a resource to ask questions and to just basically double-check my figures are correct before submitting to HMRC. #SageInspire

As soon as the 6th April comes, get working on your tax return, appoint an accountant if needs be. If you leave it too late, you'll rush it and therefore more likely to make mistakes and maybe incur fines. #SageInspire

I'll estimate how much profit I'm going to make in the coming tax year. Then put this value into a UK tax calculator to see roughly what percentage tax I'll have to pay. I'll use this percentage & deduct it from my earnings each month & put it into a savings account #SageInspire
