What an amazing exciting day!

The Game Accessibility Association of Japan (一般社団法人 日本ゲームアクセシビリティ協会(GAAJ)) is officially announced!

There was been a need for game accessibility content to support Japanese Developers and I can’t wait to see the support this will offer!

STOP TRYING TO IMPLEMENT 'COLOURBLIND FILTERS'.

Barely a day goes by without some awful approach from or AAA , applying wrong colours or accidentally making a CB-simulator. The problem to solve is a design one, not an engineering one: gameaccessibilityguidelines.com/ensure-no-esse…

It was a competitive time slot but I am eternally grateful for the small crowd of UI/UX game devs that showed up

If y'all could all sit in front of Patrick's camera next time that'd be perfect 🙏

Thinking about the next evolution of accessible game design like this…

Let’s move past the assumption that players simply need assists and see what we can do to leverage what we already design and teach mastery and bring challenge to everyone.

Anyone who has a game idea should legitimately try making one

Not in a 'haha see how hard this is' kind of way, but there's never been more tools/resources available to make a simple game

And there's joy in the act of creation

And yeah, maybe you'll appreciate games more, too

This is how “I really want to make sure the core loop is fun before I consider accessibility implications” manifests in games

10 things I've learned from 17 years of
1) You will most likely work on more (commercial or critical) failures than you will successes. This will probably break your heart at least once. Learn to love the act of making and creation over the validation of success.

Happy International Women's Day.

Women have been disproportionally affected by the mass game industry layoffs.

But also, women in Gaza are having C-sections without anesthesia. Two mothers are killed every hour, and there is a critical lack of sanitary products.

Sharing this piece my partner wrote about the importance of Hailey in while we're again celebrating accessibility and inclusion wins.

We’re investigating if we have enough budget to cover a couple of tickets for folks laid off but wanting to attend The Game Accessibility Conference this April.

We run super lean and have a tight budget, but we want to support everyone during this tough time.

Is there any interested in this?

Video game accessibility pro tip: If a player needs subtitles to be very large and high contrast to read them, then they likely have similar needs for your game's UI and HUD to play comfortably.

Great thread for understanding the use of contrast for gameplay affordances. Especially important for accessibility 💛

Disabled people’s lack of accessibility is not meant to inspire you when you see us struggle to navigate public spaces, it’s meant to anger you. Ableism is seeing our struggle as a beautiful triumph rather than an egregious failure of the system.
