an hour ago, at UChicago, pro-genocide and right wing thugs have attacked the Gaza solidarity camp. Frontliners holding shields were able to push back and also to guard against police counter-attack. Tense but stable atmosphere right now.

Sexual violence is central to the culture and practice of policing; it is wielded as a tool of law enforcement. The fact that many so-called feminist/anti-violence orgs stay silent on the pervasiveness of sexual violence at the hands of cops—or worse, work with them—is shameful.

Reminder: The cops are not an ideologically neutral peacekeeping force. They are a militarized, occupation force whose job is to protect elite interests and the status quo. They quell dissent using techniques honed on Black and Brown bodies for centuries.

My name is Isabelle Friedman, and I'm the editor in chief of the Daily Bruin, UCLA's independent student newspaper. It seems like I've only just now had a chance to sit and truly reflect on the events of the past week.

I’m still trying to find more eloquent words for this but as I’ve been organizing to help student encampments and help get arrested students support, while also organizing for families in Palestine, I have seen SO much more money go to students—like $100,000 versus $2,000.
