Toad Blowfly (Lucilia bufonivora)...adults were common at the Yorkshire Arboretum on an YNU meeting back in June and today results of that were seen. The toad is still alive, but larvae are feeding away within the nostrils. Dipterists Forum

Spotted an intriguing black fuzzy patch on a distant willow leaf, and up close it turned out to be 147 very tiny, very hairy caterpillars! Think these will grow up to be Garden Tigers, ready to fly next summer

Wow, amazing news! Huge congratulations to our friend, orchidologist & top plant spotter Richard Dr Richard Bate, who has refound Britain's rarest orchid after 30 years! As its #PlantAtlas2020 page says, this is 'the most arduously sought British plant' plantatlas2020.org/atlas/2cd4p9h.…

A surprising capture in St Mellion last night was a Convolvulus Hawk, marked & released a mile away on 12/8. I don't think I've ever had a recapture as they're highly migratory. It was on it's last legs but I managed to revive it with honey solution; showing it's long proboscis.

I have been illustrating insects which can be found buzzing & scuttling around ragwort. This cheerful wildflower sustains an astounding array of different insect species! This is just a tiny selection.

It’s come to my attention that a number of people are planning to look for this plant. Sorry but it is now gone. If you are intending to search for these plants can you please do so responsibly - and be careful at sensitive sites, that are delicate. Heavy trampling damages them.

CPRE The countryside charity Biodiverse brownfield land outside of the Green Belt and full of scarce birds, insects and plants (1, 2). Species-poor, agriculturally unproductive, largely inaccessible, horsicultural Green Belt (3). I know which category I'd wish to protect the most.
