Bihar Eq Edu James Tooley Azim Premji University Shreya Roy Chowdhury Girls, children from marginalized families experience just as much discrimination in pvt schools if not more. If we were to look for potential of student autonomy, we are much more likely to find it in the govt school. In some dists, enrolment went up in govt schools last year.

James Tooley How much experience do you have in India? How many year have you lived here? Among which circles are you moving? How many regional and local languages are you speaking? How much do you know about our history and education system? What makes you think you should intervene?

Ritesh Mishra James Tooley How much is e g the per pupil annual spending on a child going to a govt school in Bihar? How much does India spend on education as a percentage a) of the budget and b) of our GDP? How does that compare internationally and with global frameworks we have committed ourselves to?

James Tooley In that case, please take some rest and let's continue our conversation once you feel better. We wish you a speedy recovery and hope it is nothing serious <3

I would go a step further & say we should have a common schooling system. But these are hypothetical questions. The fact is that most places have a stratified system. The need is to ensure that public schools are well resourced & able to function well.

The technocratic solutions-marketplace has little to offer to solve the learning crisis in Bihar's schools. Rather, a social and political settlement must be reached that allows government schools to flourish. thewire.in/education/indi…

How EdTech and govts form an unholy alliance to uphold segregation. Not unlike the scenario in India. Instead of tackling structural injustices, technological pseudo-solutions are promoted. Sylvain Aubry Anjela Taneja David Archer youtu.be/Qe33YhO_mqw

There are valid arguments on both sides. The court decision must be respected. Yet, a political consensus must be found. It needs political leadership and programmatic teacher unions to ensure that a workable consensus is reached. RTE Forum Teachers of Bihar Nitish Kumar

An important piece by Dan Honig (DanHonig.bsky) and Lant Pritchett for Center for Global Development: Accountability, if understood as counting, is not conducive to thick tasks like teaching. Rather, deliberation and deviations at the ground level are crucial. Uma Mahadevan Dasgupta Brian Levy

#NEP: School governance needs a holistic overhaul. We suggest to make a clear line between schooling and learning. We also stress the need for clearer roles, digitalisation, proper staffing & a rejuvenation of the esprit de corps of frontline bureaucrats. biharedpolcenter.org/blog/nep-schoo…

"Temperatures of 40°C and more often mean above 50°C in unventilated classrooms across the country. Recent studies have shown that room temperature impacts learning. If it gets too hot, learning becomes difficult. Both teachers and students suffer."
