There is no sane world in which we should know Robert Jenrick’s name. And now he is somehow, inexplicably, leading the race to be Tory leader inews.co.uk/opinion/robert…

A quite extraordinary episode. Prof Paul Dolan: “It’s much easier, much of the time, to hold someone else responsible for how you think the world is, than it is to do anything about it yourself. The path of least resistance is blame.” Naomi Smith Luke Tryl Quiet Riot

A brilliant and moving maiden speech from Uma Kumaran MP: "I am the daughter of Tamil refugees... Britain welcomed my parents with open arms so they could rebuild their lives and flourish... It's the story of Britain and British values at its best".

A proposed new anti-pollution law could send guilty water-company bosses to jail, although they’ll be used to conditions in prison after all those years of slopping-out

🚨🚨 Great to see harm of #brexit is now openly discussed by UK politicians. But, very little of harm can be alleviated unless UK rejoins EU SM or the Union as full members.

I interviewed Michel Barnier about the Brexit negotiations for my book on Keir Starmer. It would be fair to say the new French PM is an admirer of the (slightly less) new British PM.

Breaking: Labour is dropping the Tories plan to house asylum seekers at the RAF Scampton former military base in Lincolnshire The Home Office says £60m has already been spent - way above the figure previously disclosed - and "the site no longer represents value for money"

Fixing the problems we face after Brexit doesn't start with rejoin. It starts here. Finally, parliament is reflecting what we all know - Brexit has been a disaster. It was brought up in EIGHT separate questions in the House of Commons today. 👇

The German Ambassador valiantly - and vainly - encouraging the Daily Mail to report facts. 'Honest Bob' Jenrick is, inevitably, already running with the lies.

The piece: Starmer is doing the right thing. He is only cutting benefits for the richest pensioners. The image: To use a fashionable turn of phrase, the Telegraph is just weird. ~AA

This is why flooding social media with sockpuppet blue tick accounts matters. They increase the validation for abusing 'foes', heighten the terror of 'outside threat', and create the illusion of a much bigger 'tribe' - all three things nudge behaviour to further extremes. ~AA

Did some number crunching on yesterday's PMB ballot. By my calculation, entry rate was*: 🔵 Con: 112/121 (93%) 🟠 Lib: 66/72 (92%) 🔴 Lab: 251/411 (61%) 🟡 SNP: 6/9 (67%) Despite this, Conservatives ended up without any bills. Extraordinarily bad luck. *Party at election.

Obviously Labour has many more MPs. But even on the share of entries, was: 🔵 Con: 24.5% (but zero selected) 🟠 Lib: 14.4% (four selected) 🔴 Lab: 54.8% (15 selected) ⭕️ TUV: 0.2% (one selected) The luck of the draw.

The U.K. has four nations. The Westminster bubble often neglects this. So here’s a closer look at what’s happening in Wales. Will is a superb listen. I learned a lot. I didn’t even know the boundaries had been redrawn for the Senedd elections. Find out who that benefits 🎧👇

Jenrick was Housing Sec for 26 months. Inherited fully consulted-on Green Paper. Didn't become White Paper for TWO YEARS. And only law THREE YEARS after that, after he left Housing. Grenfell United felt so betrayed they wouldn't meet with him. And he wants an A for Effort? 😠~AA
